Is J-School Right For Me?
J-School is extraordinary, but it isn’t right for everyone. Get answers to the most frequently asked questions so you can make the best decision for you.
What is J-School
J-School is a 4-week online learning program for actors who want to build a meaningful career.
Whether you’re brand new to the industry or an established actor ready to grow, J‑School will challenge you to execute at your highest level. It’s designed to turn your acting business into a career — J-School is designed for actors who want to:
- get a talent agent
- get auditions or more auditions
- understand the audition process
- nail their auditions
- take their career to the next level
- know how to communicate with Casting Directors
- know how to meet Casting Directors
- understand how to work with a talent agent to get more auditions
Making it as an actor requires boldness, vision and the ability to execute on the right strategies.
Without a roadmap or guidance, the process can be overwhelming. J-School can fast-track your growth and save you years of expensive trial and error. J-School is intensive and challenging. There are no silver bullets, simple formulas or guaranteed results.
Where does the program take place?
Everything is online — no travel required.
You have lifetime access to the training, so you can go through the materials each week as they’re released, or slow things down and work at your own pace.
How is J-School different to other courses?
J-School is action-oriented, purpose-driven and transformative. We deeply care about you — our students. You get lifetime access to the training.
We’re constantly updating and improving every aspect of the program, and our alums get those updates free of charge.
Aside, we teach the business side of things. You can be the most talented actor but if you don’t have the navigation skills, you will miss your opportunities.
How much time do I need to commit?
If you plan to work through the live program in real-time, we recommend between 4-6 hours per week to watch the training, complete your growth assignments and — if you’d like — engage with Jackie and the community.
Many of our students go through the program as best they can; pausing and returning to it as their schedule allows.
If you’re not able to carve out that much time at first, don’t worry. You get lifetime access to the training and can easily work at your own pace, on your schedule. Most of our students have full-time jobs or businesses and families. This experience is designed to stretch you, but it can also be customised to your life.
The more focus and dedication you put into J-School, the more you’ll get out of it.
To be clear, there are no fast or guaranteed results. Building a career in acting is not a 4-week, linear event. This program mirrors the reality of the business — it’s intense, time consuming, and demanding.
What will I learn?
We outline the course breakdown, including our core curriculum included here.
But the power of J-School doesn’t lie in propriety videos or secret formulas. All the information you could ever need as an actor is available for free online, right now. As E.O. Wilson remarked, “We’re drowning in information, but starving for wisdom.”
If you’re not aware of what you need to know and apply to your acting career — and what you don’t — all the free information in the world won’t help.
J-School is an experience. It’s action-oriented and intense. It’s about doing the work, being seen for who you are, leveraging your unique strengths and getting challenged to grow into your full potential.
The real value is in the skills and capabilities you’ll develop, the risks you’ll take and the relationships you’ll build. In our humble opinion, who you’ll become as a result of completing our program is priceless.
What is not covered in the program?
We outline the specific course breakdown, including the core curriculum here.
Broadly speaking, we don’t provide acting lessons. We also don’t cover anything dealing with ABNs, insurance, trademarking or anything granular relating to legal, taxes or liability. For all legal, insurance and tax advice, you need to consult your attorney and your accountant.
Who It’s Perfect For
Who’s right for J-School?
J-School is for all actors, trained and aspiring actors.
It’s for committed beginners and evolving actors who want direction, clarity and the business side of skills.
The experience is designed to help you start and grow your acting career.
Who is not right for this program?
It’s not right if you’re looking for an acting coach or a one-to-one mentor.
Our program isn’t right for those looking for help with legal set up, tax structures, etc
It’s also not right if you consider yourself an established actor who already gets lots of auditions. If you’ve already mastered the acting side of business, have loads of auditions or have a solid network of casting directors/producers — this experience isn’t right for you.
This program isn’t right if you hope to learn by osmosis. J-School is for action-takers who understand that real change happens with consistent, focused effort over time.
J-School isn’t right for someone looking for a cookie-cutter “plug and play” system to make it as an actor. This isn’t a “make it overnight” program. It’s a “get great over a long period of time” program.
Is J-School only for Australian actors?
No. While the majority of our students are Australian, we have a powerful and growing audience of world-wide actors. The content is not country-specific and everyone is welcome
Will J-School work for me if I have never worked in the industry?
J-School is ideal if you’re just starting because it’ll train you to think like an actor and avoid the costly mistakes even trained actors make when launching into the industry.
Can my friend/partner and I take J-School together?
J-School is a single membership program. Meaning, one person per membership. If you’d like to do the program along with your partner, please enrol separately.
How much does it cost?
The investment for J-School is $499 (worth $2,250). J-School is the only course taught by both a talent agency and a casting director.
Last Little Details
How is J-School different from free online resources?

But if you’re not aware of what you need to know and what you don’t, all the free information in the world won’t help.

How do you support students as they work through the training?
Dynamic, multi-faceted, caring support is the backbone of J-School. Once you join the program, you’ll have guidance and support from a team of like-minded creatives in a safe and encouraging environment.
